For a third year in a row, The spanish Institut del Cava is holding a nation-wide competition in Germany to find the country’s next reigning Cava Champion.

There are currently 32 different wine clubs from various regions in Germany competing for the grand title. The two phases to the competition are: blind tasting and quiz with an elimination round in which three finalists will be chosen and a second tasting competition with the three finalists and the selection of a winner. The winning club will treated to a gala dinner for its members as well as 10 cases of Cava.
The competition is currently in its first phase in which the clubs have to taste the cava and answer questions regarding the cava’s aging period, type of grape used and the quantity of sugar added. The final winner will be chosen in September 2009.
